To say Linkword's teaching techniques are 'unconventional' is rather like saying Saddam Hussein is in a spot of bother. Traditional teaching techniques all well out of the window as far as Linkword French is concerned - and that goes for the eleven other languages also in their catalogue...In practice however, Dr. Gruneberg's method works impressively - information sticks and it sticks quickly. It didn't take a particularly longwinded case study to convince me when an 80% pass rate in recalling the names of a dozen or so animals - including gender - within three minutes was proof enough. Considering my terrible memory and loathing of French as a schoolboy I was frankly astounded. It's certainly worth every penny of the asking price (rudimentary interface noted) and the Greek version is already in the post in preparation for my summer hols. Tres bon.
Languages: A Fishy Way to Learn

"Samakah" means "fish." You can remember that by imagining trying to smack a fish. Smack. Samakah. Smack. Samakah. Yes, you're learning Arabic one word at a time. In two or three hours, claims unforgettablelanguages.com, you will learn at least 100 words. Doubt it? Try another one: the Portuguese for "bed" is"cama." Picture a camel lying on your bed. "It's rather addictive," says site creator Michael Morehouse.That's evident from the sales numbers. The "unforgettable" people offer 30 languages, amoung them Swahili, Hebrew and Greek. When the site went up in mid-August 2001, it wasn't making any money. But Arabic sales took off in January, tripling in a matter of months and helping to push the service into profitability. More than 300,000 people worldwide have now used the site's courses or similar versions, and soon the method will make an appearance in a few British classrooms. Are all these people really learning languages with pure mnemonic devices? The courses use memory researcher Dr. Michael Gruneberg's Linkword method. After a weekend, the site promises, you'll have a working vocabulary and basic grammar..."

Dr. Michael Gruneberg, the author of the Linkword© Language Courses, is an internationally recognized expert on learning methods. He is a past President of the USA based Society for Applied Research in Memory and Cognition and is widely regarded as one of the founders of the Everyday Memory Movement, one of the most influential movements in present day memory research. He has published numerous books and scientific articles on memory and memory improvement methods and has lectured widely in both the USA and the UK on his work. His Linkword© Language courses have been published in France, Spain, Germany and Russia, as well as being published widely in book, audio and computer formats in both the USA and the UK. Dr. Gruneberg has scripted and appeared on the BBC TV program 'The Magic of Memory', as well as being the chief scientific consultant to the BBC for a BBC 1 series on Unforgettable Memory. He has contributed to a large number of radio broadcasts on memory and learning methods and his popular books include Memory Failures and Your Memory for Life, both co-authored with Professor Doug Herrmann of Indiana State University.
ABOUT THE COURSES
Unforgettable Languages CD Rom courses use the Linkword© method, a revolutionary memory technique developed by world-renowned learning expert, Dr. Michael Gruneberg. Linkword© effortlessly teaches hundreds of words and beginner to advanced grammar at an amazingly rate. The Linkword© method dramatically reduces the most time consuming part of learning a new language...actually memorizing vocabulary and grammar. Linkword's© basic interface and simple techniques will lock vocabulary and grammar in your memory. We basically teach you to remember what you learn. This can save you weeks or months. The example below will show you how the Linkword© can lock a Russian word into your memory.
COURSE CONTENTS
The courses are suitable for 5th grade to adult. For detailed information on any language just click on a flag. We offer 12 different languages including both European and Latin American Spanish. Each language is divided into 1 or more levels. Each level includes 10 Sections with interactive quizzes throughout. Students will learn about 400 vocabulary words per level with native speaking audio to ensure correct pronunciation. Currently, the CD Rom Courses are compatible with Windows operating systems (Windows 95 through XP) and Apple/Macintosh platform.
